"The copy book of the Bulgarian Society in Ruse is one of the unique documents that demonstrates activities and social functions of Orthodox religious communities during the second half of the nineteenth century. The text contains several kinds of doccuments issued by the name of the society or its spiritual head, chief priest Nil Izvorov. Documents are written in various langueges including Greek, Romanian, French and Russian, reflecting international character of the social life in Ruse at that time. An overwhelming majority of the documents are written in Bulgarian and Ottoman Turkish. Bulgarian is the native language of the people who left this text and Ottoman - Turkish was the official language of their rulers. This book is intended to publish all of the documents remaining in the original text except for those written in Greek and Romanian"(From the Acknowledgments)
