"Ates was born in Southern Anatolia, Adana - Turkey. He is a graduate of the Ankara Fine Arts Faculty. He attended the Kingsway Princeton College and Benthal Green Institute in London where he concentrated his studies on the Romantic William Blake. Completing his studies, he returned to Istanbul where his first solo exhibition made a strong impact and resulted in considerable attention. Ates has taken couraques steps to oppose man's alienation of himself because of modernization. Although modern science and technology has made the world a smaller place the art is reflects maan as a stranger to himself and nature. Refusing this alienation, he has found his identity in the process. His art projects the unknown and dark side of all people through surrealism. His Expressions is realized through his search for truth and things that all men share. His art shows the rebellious nature of man through an expression of freedom in his fantasies. This catalog represents his works from 1983 through 1992. His art is a mixture of surrealism, romanticism and mysticism."(From the beginning part)
